ABSTRACT

Objective:To analyze the application value of health education based on knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) in patients before gastrointestinal endoscopy in the Department of Gastroenterology. Methods:Three hundred and fifty patients underwent gastrointestinal endoscopy in the Department of Gastroenterology of Jingqiao Health Center of Nanjing Lishui District from January 2019 to October 2020 were selected and divided into the control group ( n=175) and the observation group ( n=175) according to the random number table method. Patients in the control group chose regular health education, and patients in the observation group adopted health education in the KAP model. The gastrointestinal cleanliness before the examination, the Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) score before and after the examination, the awareness rate of medical knowledge, the examination compliance rate, the diet compliance rate and the nursing satisfaction rate were compared between the two groups of patients. Results:Patients of gastrointestinal cleanliness level 1, 2, 3, and 4 in the observation group accounted for 83.43% (146/175), 13.14% (23/175), 3.43% (6/175) and 0, respectively, and those in the control group were 49.71% (87/175), 35.43% (62/175), 9.14% (17/175) and 4.57% (8/175) ( Z value was 6.743, P<0.001). The SAS scores of the observation group after the examination was 42.30±4.77, and 50.17±5.12 in the control group. There was significant difference between the two groups after the examination ( t value was 14.878, P<0.05). The medical-related knowledge awareness rate, the inspection compliance rate, and the diet compliance rate of the observation group were 100.00%(175/175), 98.29% (172/175) and 97.71%(171/175), and those rates of the control group were 90.29%(158/175), 83.43% (146/175), and 79.43%(139/175), respectively ( χ2 value was 17.867, 23.250, 28.903, all P<0.05). Conclusions:The knowledge-attitude-practice model-based health education can reduce the preoperative anxiety of patients undergoing gastrointestinal endoscopy, and improve their compliance and satisfaction with nursing.

ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo investigate the current status of knowledge, attitude and practice of nurses in mental health hospitals on the prevention and control of nosocomial infections, and to analyze the influencing factors. MethodsFrom June to August 2020, 402 clinical nurses from 8 mental health hospitals in a city were enrolled using simple random sampling method, and were assessed using a self-compiled knowledge-attitude-practice questionnaire related to the nosocomial infection prevention and control, thereafter, the influencing factors were screened. ResultsThe scores of knowledge, attitude and practice dimensions in relation to the nosocomial infection prevention and control among the nurses were (8.43±1.84), (76.01±5.70) and (57.42±3.75), respectively. Univariate analysis showed that the knowledge dimension score demonstrated significant difference among nurses of different types of hospital, grades of hospital, professional titles, education levels, and emphasis degrees of hospital and individual on nosocomial infection (P<0.05 or 0.01). The attitude dimension scores yielded significant difference among nurses of different types of hospital, position, grades of hospital, and emphasis degrees of hospital and individual on nosocomial infection (P<0.05 or 0.01). The practice dimension scores manifested significant difference among nurses of different types of hospital, grades of hospital, professional titles, emphasis degrees of hospital and individual on nosocomial infection, and training frequency (P<0.05 or 0.01). Multiple linear regression analysis showed that professional titles and individual emphasis on nosocomial infection entered the regression model of nurses' knowledge dimension of nosocomial infection prevention and control (P<0.05 or 0.01). Individual emphasis on nosocomial infection, hospital types and position entered the regression model of attitude dimension (P<0.05 or 0.01). Individual emphasis on nosocomial infection, hospital types, professional titles, and hospital emphasis on nosocomial infection entered the regression model of practice dimension (P<0.05 or 0.01). ConclusionNurses in mental health hospital have a positive attitude towards nosocomial infection prevention and control, but their knowledge base needs to be strengthened.

ABSTRACT

This study mapped the Psychology Services of Brazilian Higher Education Institutions and the work performed by school psychologists. In all 87 identified services, most school psychologists belong to a multidisciplinary team. They aim their actions mainly at students, eventually interacting with other educational agents. Alongside traditional practices of counseling and referring students, there are also emerging practices such as welcoming freshmen, supporting course coordinators, hosting formative workshops, keeping up with former graduates and performing institutional assessment. The diversified set of practices shows that school psychologists' activities are shifting from a clinical-therapeutic model to a more preventive and institutional one in nature. A practice model capable of guiding the structuring and functioning of Psychology Services may ensure greater consistency in the implementation of different interventions.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: Behavioral symptoms in dementia (BSD) are one of the most disturbing behaviors to caregivers and a major reason for nursing home placement. Behavioral symptoms are often treated with psychotropic drugs (PD), however, the effect of such drugs for the frail elderly dementia patient is not certain because of their critical adverse effects. Theoretical model applicable to nursing practice for BSD in nursing homes, which is essential in guiding and evaluating such interventions, is absent. This article presents the process of developing a theoretical model of BSD in nursing homes. METHOD: Using Walker and Avants' theory synthesis method, three behavior models and two system models were incorporated into the proposed model to provide the theoretical and analytical explanation of the relationships between PD usage, its determinants, and BSD. RESULTS: Resident variables and nursing home variables related to the two focal concepts (i.e., PD usage and BSD) were identified. Resident variables include demographical characteristics such as age and gender, and dementia-compromised functions such as cognitive and functional impairment. Nursing home variables include facility characteristics such as ownership type and size, and physical and psychosocial environment. CONCLUSION: The proposed model suggests that fulfillment of resident unmet needs through improvement of physical and psychosocial environment may produce better health outcomes of nursing home residents with BSD. Assessment and intervening environmental triggers of such behaviors are also suggested to be prior to the PD usage.
